Raymond Higginson, age 52, of Toms River passed away at home on Friday, June 10 after a 16-month battle with cancer.
Ray grew up in Freehold Township where he wrestled and played football and baseball in high school.
After graduating from college with a degree in business, he realized that his true passion was history and teaching. He pursued this dream and went back to school in order to become a teacher and a coach.
Ray taught social studies in Howell Township for over 23 years and coached cross country, wrestling, and track.
Above all else, Ray loved his three daughters beyond measure and would do anything in his power to put a smile on their faces.
Whether it was helping with math homework, teaching them how to hit a softball in the backyard, or cheering them on at their sporting events, Ray was a devoted father to his girls.
Ray was predeceased by his mother, Judith (Mason) Wellings.Ray is survived by his loving wife, Jackie Higginson and their three beloved daughters, Chloe, Layla, and Aubrey Higginson; his father and stepmother, John (Sophie) Higginson; three sisters, Colleen Higginson (Leonard), Jill Schipani, and Ashley Higginson (Liam); three nieces, Danielle and Melanie Schipani, and Zofia Boylan-Pett.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, June 12 from 12:00 to 4:00 at the Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals at 412 Main Street, Toms River.A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 13 at 10:00 am at the funeral home, followed by a burial at Ocean County Memorial Park at 1722 Silverton Road, Toms River.
In lieu of flowers, donations toward the girls’ education or to Fox Chase Cancer Center are most appreciated.
