Ocean County: Coastal Flood Watch & High Wind Warning

Ocean County: Coastal Flood Watch & High Wind Warning

Weather Alert

Officials in Ocean County are warning homeowners to take precautions as a coastal storm approaches that is predicted to bring severe wind gusts and coastal flooding. According to two advisories from the Ocean County Sheriff's Office, the National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood watch until Saturday evening as well as a high wind warning for Friday into Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, a potential tropical storm developing off the Atlantic coast is to blame for the flooding and wind dangers. The storm, which was headed near North Carolina Thursday afternoon, is expected to bring flooding, wind, and 2 to 4 inches of rain.

Authorities are advising people to avoid the ocean over the weekend as rip current warnings are once more in effect.

The coastal flooding, which is expected to last until Saturday at 8 p.m., could cause low-lying areas and tidal waterways to be flooded by up to 2 feet above ground level, according to the weather service. Particularly Long Beach Island and Southern Ocean County were anticipated to get greater amounts.

Low-lying roads that flood will likely be flooded and rendered impassable. Back bay locations that are low-lying will probably also be impacted. A high wind warning is in place for northeast winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts as high as 60 mph from midnight on Friday to 8 p.m. on Saturday. Authorities advise removing automobiles from flood-prone regions and securing outdoor objects from the wind.
