FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ – A Franklinville man has been arrested and charged with murder following an early morning shooting that left a 30-year-old woman dead inside a Franklin Township home, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.
Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns announced that Ricardo A. Ferrera, 32, of Franklinville, was taken into custody shortly after noon Monday and is now facing multiple criminal charges in connection with the death of Christina Cruz, 30. Authorities charged Ferrera with first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain persons not to have a weapon.
According to court documents, Franklin Township Police responded to a residence on Porchtown Road at approximately 12:36 a.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. Investigators say a witness who had been upstairs in the home heard gunshots and went downstairs, where Christina Cruz was found lying in the living room.
The witness told police that Ferrera and Cruz had been involved in an argument roughly two hours before the shooting. A second witness, who was in a first-floor bedroom, reportedly heard the argument followed by two gunshots and a loud thud. Authorities allege Ferrera fled the scene in a vehicle immediately after the shooting, prompting law enforcement to issue a bulletin seeking his arrest.
After several hours of investigation and a regional search, Ferrera was located and taken into custody. Reports indicate he was apprehended in Vineland, approximately 10 miles from Franklinville.
Investigators remained at the residence throughout much of the day processing the crime scene. The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Investigation Unit assisted Franklin Township Police with the investigation, alongside the New Jersey State Police. Prosecutor Johns publicly thanked all agencies involved for their efforts.
Additional reporting from regional news outlets indicated that several people, including children, were inside the home at the time of the shooting. Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone seeking official updates can follow the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office on Facebook at GC Prosecutor Facebook Page.
