Scott B. Carlino, 52, and his mother, Ellen Carlino, 74, of Brick
According to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, an investigation revealed that a Toms River man was selling marijuana from a Toms River CBD shop and that he and his mother are now being charged with criminal marijuana distribution.
The investigation into the distribution of marijuana and THC-related products in Ocean County, which started in May, led to the arrests of Scott B. Carlino, 52, and his mother Ellen Carlino, 74, both of Brick. Authorities also seized more than $600,000 and about 70 pounds of marijuana, prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.
According to Billhimer, Carlino, the proprietor of EarthE CBD on West Water Street in Toms River, is accused of dispensing marijuana and THC products out of the shop and keeping the drug at both his and his mother's residences.
According to Billhimer, Scott Carlino was apprehended on the Garden State Parkway after detectives on surveillance watched him leave his Toms River home on Thursday.
The EarthE CBD store, Carlino's Toms River residence, and his mother's residence were all searched at that time, according to Billhimer. Authorities also found 1,500 pounds of THC-related items, a 9mm handgun, and about $390,000 in cash in addition to the 70 pounds of marijuana. According to Scott Carlino, detectives also seized over $217,000 from his personal bank accounts.
At her residence, Ellen Carlino was taken into custody on suspicion of conspiring to commit financial facilitation. Prior to her scheduled initial court appearance in Ocean County Superior Court, she was served with the offense through summons, according to Billhimer.
