Rider Lost Control of the Bike
Monday's motorcycle accident on Route 37 left a Lakehurst man with critical injuries, according to Manchester police.
According to Sgt. Joseph Fastige,
Thomas O'Brien, 27, was seriously hurt in the collision at Bone Hill Road, which was reported at 4:43 p.m. He also sustained a complex fracture of his left arm.
O'Brien, who was wearing a helmet, sustained many injuries to his left side but was conscious and alert, according to Fastige. His injuries were not thought to be life-threatening when he was taken to
Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment, according to the police.
O'Brien lost control of his 2007 black-and-green Harley Davidson while traveling east on Route 37 in the left lane, according to Fastige. He said that the motorcycle slid 196 feet overall and around 150 feet with O'Brien since it was 46 feet farther east of O'Brien when police arrived.
While cops investigated the incident, the left two lanes of Route 37 were shut down, resulting in traffic delays.
Firefighters and EMTs from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, as well as paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, assisted at the scene.
Fastige stated that although the investigation by Patrolmen Michael O'Hara and Brendan Brush is still ongoing, the preliminary findings indicate that driver error and speeding were the main causes of the collision.
