Election Day in November will be one of two virtual learning days for students in the Toms River Regional School District under modifications to the district's calendar that were approved Wednesday night.
Michael Citta, the superintendent, announced the modifications by saying that the remote instruction has been planned so that children are not in class while the buildings are being used as polling stations.
Citta intended to persuade the election officials in Ocean County to relocate the polling sites farther from the schools.
"I was hopeful through the process that we would finally get that completed before the beginning of this year, and we were unable to do so," he stated at the board meeting on Wednesday.
The general election day, November 7, and primary day, June 4, 2024, will both be designated as remote learning days.
Additionally, there will be an early dismissal on Thursday, March 28, 2024. Citta stated that the alteration was made to maintain uniformity with other school breaks in the 2023–24 academic year.
