Victim's Identity Revealed: Man Crushed to Death at NJ Recycling Center
Timothy Hannold, 50, of the West Creek section of Eagleswood,
It has been determined that the man who was crushed within a sizable dumpster at the Ocean County Northern Recycling Center was a volunteer firefighter and longtime employee.
According to police captain Gregory Staffordsmith,
Timothy Hannold, 50, of Eagleswood's West Creek neighborhood, was inside a sizable container that had recently been delivered to the facility on Towbin Avenue.
Coworkers trying to straighten the dumpster without realizing Hannold was inside caused the doors to move, pinning Hannold against an interior wall.
At the scene,
Hannold was pronounced deceased.
When asked if they were looking into the incident, the Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health Office of the New Jersey Department of Labor did not reply.
Hannold was employed by the Ocean County Department of Solid Waste Management for 22 years, according to his obituary. He had been a lifelong member of Station 70 of the Parkertown Volunteer Fire Department.
Known as "Ripper," Hannold was married and had two children, ages seven and twenty-one.
Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Parkertown Firehouse in Little Egg Harbor is Hannold's viewing time. A
gofundme has also been set up to help the family during this difficult time.
