Recall Alert: Wegmans Hummus Poses Allergen Risk in NJ
According to the FDA, Summer Fresh Salads Inc., of Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada, is recalling Wegmans Harissa Hummus Topped With Harissa because it may contain undeclared sesame. If people with sesame allergies ingest these goods, they risk having a significant or even fatal allergic reaction.
The recalled Wegmans Harissa Hummus Topped With Harissa was sold in certain Wegmans locations in Washington, D.C., Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia from January 29 to February 2, 2024.
The product is packaged in a 10.5 ounce (298 g) transparent plastic packaging with top, side, and bottom labels bearing the lot numbers 240239 and 240309, as well as an expiration date imprinted on the side label of 03/19/2024 and 03/26/2024.
There have been no illnesses recorded as a result of this concern.
The recall was initiated when it was discovered that the sesame-containing product was supplied in packaging that concealed the presence of sesame. A subsequent examination revealed that the problem was caused by a labelling error.
