NJ Experiences Series of Aftershocks After 4.8 Magnitude Earthquake
The
USGS, which tracks earthquakes, said that a 2.0-magnitude earthquake was felt, with an epicenter located seven kilometers west of Bedminster, New Jersey.
Between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m., three further aftershocks according to PIX11 with magnitudes ranging from 1.8 to 2.2 were recorded close to the counties of Morris, Hunterdon, and Somerset.
"According to our forecast, there is a 1% chance of one or more aftershocks that are larger than magnitude 5, which can be damaging, within the next week," the USGS stated. "There will likely be smaller aftershocks within the next week, with up to 10 magnitude 3 or higher aftershocks."
According to the
USGS, the earlier magnitude 4.8 earthquake was discovered at 10:23 a.m., with an epicenter close to Lebanon.
Governor Phil Murphy said that New Jersey's State Emergency efforts Center has been established, enabling agency workers to coordinate response and recovery efforts around-the-clock. The United States Tsunami Warning System states that there is no chance of a tsunami resulting from the earthquake.
