Authorities Identify Body Found Inside Fridge in New Jersey Woods

According to NJ State Police, a man from Gloucester City has been charged in relation to the discovery of a woman's body located in a refrigerator within Belleplain State Forest last December, as indicated by a report and official records.

Online court records indicate that Christopher Blevins, aged 45, has been charged with the desecration of human remains and obstruction of justice.

Law enforcement officials suspect that the refrigerator containing the body was transported to a forested area approximately on July 24, 2024, but it was not uncovered until December 22.

Blevins escaped to Mexico on August 2 and voluntarily turned himself in to Mexican authorities on August 27, as reported by NJ.com referencing an affidavit of probable cause. He informed the authorities that he had participated in a "violent incident" in Runnemede and experienced a state of "panic," suggesting that he might have caused someone's death during a bar altercation, according to the report.

The individual was recognized as Laura Hughes, who had been involved in a relationship with Blevins, as stated in the report.

According to the report, blue ratchet straps were discovered on the exterior of the refrigerator located in the residence shared by Blevins and Hughes. Additionally, law enforcement uncovered a firearm and a calendar that had "Xs" marked on each date leading up to July 24, 2024.

The report indicated that Blevins was observed on two occasions operating a pickup truck that contained a refrigerator in its bed, in the areas of Long Beach Township and Sea Isle City.

Authorities have not released the cause and manner of Hughes' death. No one has been charged with causing her death as of yet.
