Macy’s Announces Closure of New Jersey Stores
The famous department store giant Macy's confirmed Thursday that it is proceeding with its plans to eliminate 66 stores, including one in New Jersey, as announced in February of last year. The company estimates that most of the stores would retire in the first quarter of 2025.
In a three-year strategy known as Macy's "Bold New Chapter," the firm intends to eliminate 150 underperforming locations while simultaneously making greater investments in the 350 that will stay open, according to a news release. According to the firm, Macy's hopes that these closures would lead to "sustainable, profitable sales growth" again.
In the news release, Macy's chairman and CEO Tony Spring stated, "While closing any store is never easy, we are closing underperforming Macy's stores as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go-forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service."
