NJ Babysitter Found Drunk & Unconscious:
Toddler Roams Alone Outside

On January 13, 2025 at approximately 12:33 pm, a concerned citizen contacted the Brigantine Police Department in reference to finding an unaccompanied toddler outside of their residence.

The caller recognized the toddler as a neighbor and took the toddler back inside their residence. At that time, the caller found the toddler’s caretaker unconscious and unresponsive.

Brigantine Police Department and Brigantine Fire and EMS Department responded and ensured basic life support was provided to the child’s caretaker and subsequently transported her to the hospital. The parent was notified and came immediately to the scene from work. Patrol officers and the neighbor assumed care of the child until the child’s parent returned home.
Through investigation with full assistance from the child’s parent, it was learned that the caretaker was hired from a well-known online platform used for childcare.

It was determined that the person who was hired to be responsible for the care of the child while the parents were working had consumed a significant amount of the homeowner’s alcohol to the point that she became unconscious and unresponsive.

Subsequent to the investigation, Officer Paige Sofield charged Jena Davidson (35) from Ventnor City, NJ with 2nd degree endangering the welfare of a child.
Anyone with further information about this incident is asked to contact the Brigantine Police Department at (609) 266-7414.
