According to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, on April 30, 2025, Michael P. Gable, 56, of Berkeley Township, was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Crash Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury to Another Person, Operating a Motor Vehicle While Unlicensed and Causing Serious Bodily Injury to Another Person, and Tampering with Evidence, all in connection with a motor vehicle crash that occurred in Beachwood on April 30, 2025.
Additionally, Michael A. Gable, 22, Michael P. Gable’s son, also of Berkeley Township, was charged with Hindering Apprehension of another in connection with the same investigation.
On April 30, 2025, Officers from the Beachwood Police Department responded to the area of Mizzen Avenue and Locker Street for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a bicyclist.
An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad and Beachwood Police Department revealed that a 17-year-old minor was operating an electric bicycle northbound on Locker Street, when he was struck at the intersection of Locker Street and Mizzen Avenue by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Mizzen Avenue.
The vehicle continued eastbound on Mizzen Avenue and failed to stop or call local authorities for assistance. The victim sustained serious injuries in the crash; he was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he was treated and ultimately released.
Continuing investigation revealed that the motor vehicle involved in the crash was registered to Michael A. Gable.
Detectives contacted Michael A. Gable, who provided Detectives with misinformation as to the location of the vehicle and who might have been operating it.
Detectives ultimately located the vehicle at a business in Lacey Township. Through further investigation, law enforcement was able to determine that Michael P. Gable, Michael A. Gable’s father, was operating the vehicle at the time of the crash, and that he was unlicensed.
Michael P. Gable was taken into custody, charged accordingly, and transported to the Ocean County Jail where he is presently lodged pending a detention hearing.
Michael A. Gable was charged with Hindering the Apprehension of Another, and served with the charge via summons pending an upcoming first appearance in Ocean County Superior Court.
