Rising Threat of Severe Storms Along the Jersey Shore
According to the most recent forecast, the Garden State will see a dangerously hot and muggy Friday with a higher risk of severe thunderstorms.
The
National Weather Service predicts that throughout the day, heat and humidity will increase. Until 9 p.m., the whole state is under an Extreme Heat Warning and Heat Advisory.
Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are possible between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Forecasters say some hail is likely, but locally destructive winds are the greatest hazard with these storms. Heavy rains might also cause localized flash flooding.
Storms will dwindle as the sun sets. Additional chances of showers and thunderstorms are possible over the weekend, particularly Sunday, forecasters said. Sunday's storms could be severe and bring flash flooding.
According to the
National Weather Service, "the showers and thunderstorms will develop northwest to southeast which puts areas near and northwest of the I-95 corridor in the greater potential for severe weather." Check the latest
forecast.
