Potentially Significant Flash Flooding is Possible This afternoon into Tonight.

According to the National Weather Service, potentially significant flash flooding is possible this afternoon into tonight. A Flood Watch is in effect for the entire area. Some isolated severe storms are possible as well. Please heed any warnings issued today. NEVER drive through flooded roads!

Numerous flash floods are forecast in our region today. Some tips to stay safe from the flooding... have a reliable source to receive any warnings that are issued, and NEVER drive through flooded roads! Most flood related fatalities occur in vehicles.

  • NJ will have widespread showers and thunderstorms expected this afternoon throughtonight.
  • Storms will be capable of producing rainfall rates exceeding 2” per hour at times. Rainfall amounts of 1-3” are generally expected, with localized amounts of 5-7” possible.
  • Numerous instances of flash flooding of urbanized and poor drainage areas, small streams, and creeks may result.
  • Significant flash flooding is possible.
  • The location of greatest threat for flash flooding is expected across the Moderate Risk area.

  • Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening. Locally damaging winds are the main threat.
