Cold Front Brings Light Snow Showers and Squalls to New Jersey
This weekend, New Jersey will experience a dangerous period of extremely low temperatures and wind chills due to an arctic cold front. However, there will be two small snowfalls in some areas of the state before that.
The
National Weather Service predicts that Tuesday night might bring light snow, mostly to southern parts of New Jersey, with little accumulations of around a half-inch or less.
Wednesday through Friday will continue to be cold, with nighttime lows in the single digits to low teens and highs barely in the mid 20s to low 30s. However, according to experts, there won't be any hazardous wind-chill effects during this time due to mild winds.
A clipper system will increase the likelihood of snowfall late Friday into Friday night, with 1 to 2 inches of snow and possibly snow squalls that could cause visibility problems and gusty gusts.
With an arctic cold front passing through the area and strong winds that might occasionally reach 50 mph, especially on Saturday, the biggest effects are predicted to arrive Friday night and into Saturday.
With highs just in the mid- to upper teens and overnight lows falling into the single digits or as low as five degrees below zero, Saturday and Sunday will be extremely chilly.
The minimum wind chills on Saturday night ranged from 10 degrees below zero at the coast to 20 degrees below zero inland, with Saturday afternoon wind chills feeling below zero throughout New Jersey. Stay up-to-date with the local weather
forecast.
Although below-normal temperatures are predicted to persist through the middle of the week, they will start to moderate early next week.
