Toms River Experiences Extensive Power Outage on Wednesday

According to the Ocean County Sheriff's Office, a widespread power outage caused several traffic signals in Toms River to go out on Wednesday morning.

Jersey Central Power & Light reported that over 5,900 residences and commercial buildings lost electricity.

According to JCP&L spokesperson Christopher Hoenig, the outage was brought on by a tree that knocked down a wire south of Route 37 close to the Garden State Parkway.
Hoenig stated, "For the safety of the crews operating, we had to de-energize the region."

Power was restored Wednesday afternoon.
