South Jersey Man Confesses to Strangling Two Women
A man from Mays Landing acknowledged that he had strangled two women in Atlantic County on different dates.
According to the
Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, Jerry Vargas-Perez, 27, entered a guilty plea to two counts of second-degree aggravated assault on a victim of domestic abuse and faces five years in New Jersey State Prison.
In response to a domestic violence incident, Atlantic City police were called to the vicinity of Winchester and North Providence Avenues on November 26, 2022.
According to authorities, Vargas-Perez choked the victim until she almost passed out. According to officials, a motion to detain him was rejected, and he was taken into custody immediately.
Hamilton police were called to the Kenwood Court neighborhood on July 6, 2024, in response to another victim of domestic abuse.
Authorities claimed that Vargas-Perez had once more strangled the woman until she was unable to breathe. According to officials, he was detained on the spot once more, and this time the motion to hold him was granted.
The date of his sentencing is June 5, 2026.
