South Jersey Man Pleads Guilty to Decapitating Seagull

According to police, a Cape May man entered a guilty plea to beheading a seagull near a boardwalk theme park in Wildwood, NJ.

According to NJ.com, Zeigler severed the seagull's head as it attempted to grab his daughter's fries. Zeigler "was furious and uncooperative with authorities on an unrelated investigation" once the police arrived, according to the North Wildwood Police Department. According to court records, charges in different instances include aggravated assault in a domestic violence episode, criminal restraint, and false imprisonment.
Zeigler was committed to recovery court, a program for offenders coping with drug abuse concerns, following his guilty plea before Judge Jeffrey Wilson. According to court documents, he was released in mid-February after his 263-day sentence was credited to time served. In addition, he will be on probation for five years.

Doll Stanley, the senior campaigner for In Defense of Animals’ Justice, said the sentencing is only a “slap on the wrist” for a third degree felony.
