NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. — A 19-year-old Somerset resident, identified as Jayvi Rodriguez, was killed Tuesday night after a vehicle struck his dirt bike at a busy New Brunswick intersection, authorities confirmed.

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. near Jersey Avenue and Jules Lane, where police say a vehicle collided with Rodriguez’s dirt bike, igniting both the bike and the vehicle in flames as emergency crews arrived.

Rodriguez, who was thrown from the bike, was rushed to a nearby hospital but did not survive his injuries. The driver of the vehicle was also hospitalized and is expected to recover.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact New Brunswick police as they continue to piece together the events leading up to the deadly collision.
