Tragic Apartment Fire Claims Life of Woman in Ocean County
WARETOWN - A woman from Ocean County perished in a fire at an apartment building in Waretown on Thursday, April 2.
The identity of the 71-year-old woman was not made public.
According to a joint
news release the fire at the Lakeside Square Apartment complex, located at 290 North Main St. in Waretown, has been declared unintentional.
About 3 p.m. on Thursday, it was reported. According to investigators, the woman was discovered dead in a first-floor bedroom after firefighters and Waretown police examined the building.
According to officials, investigators found that smoking was the cause of the accidental fire that began on the bedroom floor.
Investigations were conducted by the Ocean Township Police Department, the Ocean County Fire Marshal's Office, the Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, the prosecutor's office Major Crime Unit-Arson Squad, and the New Jersey State Fire Marshal's Office.
