Possible Drowning at the Jersey Shore: Under Investigation
The discovery of an unconscious woman floating in the ocean on Saturday, April 25, is still being investigated. Fire Department emergency medical professionals responded and tried to resuscitate the woman. While authorities continue to advise beachgoers to avoid the ocean when lifeguards are not on duty, they are looking into a potential drowning that was reported at an Asbury Park beach on Saturday night.
At 7:36 p.m., a caller reported someone floating in the ocean, prompting the dispatch of Fire Department medics to the beach, according to Fire Chief Kevin Keddy.
According to Keddy, the dispatcher informed the firefighters that cardiac resuscitation was underway on the beach.
According to the fire chief, the firefighters took over citizen efforts to revive the woman by using a defibrillator when they arrived on the beach three minutes later. He added that paramedics also arrived at the scene..
According to Keddy, the woman was taken to
Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.
On Monday, the woman's condition was unavailable.
According to Keddy, before the firefighters arrived on the beach, they had no idea who the woman was or why she was in the ocean.
Police Sgt. Michael Casey stated that firemen and police were sent to the beach around the 800 block of Ocean Avenue in response to a probable drowning, but he was unable to provide any further information. We will not be able to say further at this time because this is an active and ongoing inquiry," Casey stated.
