Increasing Heat and Humidity Precedes Stormy Weather Ahead

Heat Wave Alert: Warmer Days Expected in New Jersey

With temperatures rising from the upper 70s to low 80s on Saturday to the mid-to-high 80s on Sunday and a run for the 90s early next week, summer-like weather is on its way to New Jersey according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters predicted a notable warming on Saturday, with partly sunny skies and a very moderate breeze, following Friday's temperatures that were stuck in the 60s.

Sunday will be even warmer than Saturday, with highs inland reaching the mid-to upper-80s and coastal areas staying 5 to 10 degrees colder.

Sunday is expected to be generally dry, although there is a small chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters predicted that the heat will peak Monday through Wednesday, with highs in inland New Jersey possibly reaching the low 90s and certain locations in southern New Jersey maybe reaching the mid-90s by Tuesday or Wednesday.

It would be a rather uncommon heat wave for May if we were to have three days in a row with temperatures of 90 degrees or above.

The National Weather Service reports that the previous May heat wave in New Jersey occurred in 2017. However, the entire state was not affected by that heat wave.
As winds move to a more southerly or southeasterly direction, coastal locations will experience more of a cooling influence, especially on Monday, bringing temperatures closer to the 70s and low 80s near the Jersey Shore, while inland areas will be scorching next week.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures in some parts of the state might get close to daily records from Monday through Wednesday.
Late on Wednesday and into Thursday, a cold front is predicted to pass over the area, bringing with it the possibility of thunderstorms and showers as well as a return to more typical temperatures.

Although it's too early to tell exactly how that system will affect things, the front may stay close by through Thursday and maybe into Friday, increasing the likelihood of showers. Stay up-to-date with the local forecast.
