New Timeline Released for Thunderstorms, Damaging Winds and Hail Across New Jersey

New Jersey residents should prepare for another round of potentially severe weather as thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts, heavy rain, frequent lightning, and isolated hail move toward the state.

Forecasters say the timing of the storms has become clearer, with the greatest risk expected during the late afternoon and evening hours on Wednesday. While not every community will see severe weather, conditions could rapidly intensify as storms develop and move across the region.

The first scattered showers and thunderstorms may begin popping up during the early afternoon, mainly across western portions of the state. However, the strongest storms are expected to arrive between approximately 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., bringing the potential for dangerous weather conditions throughout much of New Jersey.

Meteorologists warn that the primary threats include damaging wind gusts capable of downing tree limbs and power lines, torrential downpours that could create localized flooding on roadways, and pockets of small to medium-sized hail in stronger storm cells.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor furniture and loose objects ahead of the storms and remain alert for any watches or warnings issued later today. Drivers should also be prepared for sudden reductions in visibility during heavy rain and avoid traveling during the worst of the storms if possible.

The storm threat is expected to gradually diminish later tonight as the system moves offshore, though lingering showers may continue into the overnight hours in some areas.

Officials remind residents that severe weather can develop quickly, and staying weather aware throughout the day will be important.
