Fire Breaks Out on Seaside Heights Boardwalk
On June 14, a portion of the Seaside Heights Boardwalk caught fire due to a lighted cigarette. According to officials, firefighters had to pull up boards and fight the flames from underneath before they could spread.
According to
Seaside Heights Fire Department Chief Tim Farrell, the cigarette ignited the wooden boards, causing the fire to start close to Dupont Avenue. In order to put out the fire, crews dug beneath the building and demolished portions of the boardwalk.
As firemen labored to ensure that the flames were completely extinguished, around 20 to 40 feet of boards were badly saturated, according to Farrell.
The incident did not result in any injuries.
