Tragedy at the Jersey Shore: Two Children Killed in Boat Crash

Two children were killed Sunday night after they were thrown from a motorboat that crashed into a channel marker in Barnegat Bay, according to New Jersey State Police.

The crash happened around 9:09 p.m. on July 19 in the Berkeley Township section of the bay. Investigators said a Tidewater Custom 280 was being operated by 63-year-old Stephen Schneider, of Bayville, when the vessel struck a buoy along the Intracoastal Waterway.

A 9-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy were ejected into the water during the collision and died, authorities said. Laurie Schneider, 64, also of Bayville, was aboard the boat at the time of the crash.

Officials have not confirmed how Stephen and Laurie Schneider were related to the two children. The investigation into the fatal boating accident remains ongoing.
