Severe Thunderstorms and Flooding Expected Across New Jersey

Due to several rounds of severe thunderstorms that might flood areas of the state with up to 4 inches of rain on Tuesday, a flood watch has been issued for 14 counties in New Jersey.

The National Weather Service issued an alert on Monday afternoon stating that "average rainfall totals will be between 1 and 2 inches, with isolated totals around 3 to 4 inches possible." "The strongest storms may have peak rainfall rates of almost 2.5 inches per hour."

Bergen, Camden, Essex, Gloucester, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Union, and northwest Burlington counties are under a flood watch from Tuesday to Wednesday at two in the morning.

On Tuesday, there may be showers in the middle of the morning, but the afternoon and early evening will see the most activity. At this time, the area may experience heavy rains that could cause flooding and strong thunderstorms. It is anticipated that temperatures will peak at about 80 degrees.

There is still a chance of showers and storms on Wednesday because the storm system that brought the extreme weather may take a while to move out. Highs will return to the mid-80s, though, because there should be a little more sun.

Sunny sky and comfortable temperatures are expected for the remainder of the week. Highs on Thursday and Friday will range from the upper 70s to about 80 degrees.

There will likely be more sunshine during the weekend. For the duration, expect highs in the low to mid-80s.
