Ocean County Man Arrested After Road Rage Altercation
LAKEWOOD, NJ — In a road rage incident in Lakewood, a Toms River man struck and slammed another man's face into the side of a car, rendering the victim unconscious, according to police.
Following the incident that occurred at 3:30 p.m. in the vicinity of New Hampshire Avenue and Chestnut Street, Thomas W. Vance, 39, was taken into custody on Friday, according to Lakewood police.
Vance was detained in the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing on charges of aggravated assault with bodily injury.
According to the police, Vance challenged the other driver after their road rage episode turned into a two-vehicle collision.
According to the police, Vance "slammed the victim's face into the side of a vehicle, and then struck him, causing him to lose consciousness."
According to authorities, the victim received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries at a nearby hospital after suffering a minor cut.
According to Police Chief Gregory H. Meyer, "road rage events can grow extremely quickly and have catastrophic implications." "We advise drivers to maintain composure, stay away from combative drivers, and call the police if they feel endangered or threatened. No argument on the road is worth someone being harmed or going to jail.
