Storms on the Way? Rain Threatens New Jersey Later This Week

The National Weather Service said Wednesday is shaping up to be the best day of the week, with mostly sunny skies, temperatures reaching the mid-80s and lower humidity as high pressure settles over the region.

That changes Thursday, when a stronger cold front moves closer to New Jersey. The weather service is calling for a 60% to 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening.

Forecasters say Thursday could bring several rounds of thunderstorms, though it is still unclear whether severe weather or flash flooding will pose a significant threat.

The Weather Prediction Center has placed southern New Jersey under a marginal risk for excessive rainfall on Thursday.

Unsettled weather is expected to continue from Friday night through the weekend, with chances for showers and thunderstorms each day.

However, the weekend forecast remains uncertain. The weather service said the position of a stalled frontal boundary will play a major role in determining when and where rain develops, as well as how much rainfall the region receives. Keep up-to-date with your local weather forecast.
