Manchester Man Dies Five Days After Being Struck in Pedestrian Crash

A Whiting man has died nearly a week after suffering severe injuries in a pedestrian crash earlier this month. Richard J. Fescharek, 43, succumbed to his injuries on August 14, according to an updated statement released Tuesday by the Manchester Township Police Department.

Fescharek was struck around 9:37 p.m. on August 9 near the intersection of County Route 530 and Swift Circle in the Whiting section of Manchester. Responding officers found him critically injured, while the involved sedan had come to rest on a grassy portion adjacent to the roadway.

Police previously reported that Fescharek sustained multiple life‑threatening injuries and was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. He remained hospitalized until his passing five days later.

According to investigators, improper pedestrian crossing appears to be a contributing factor, though the crash remains under active investigation. The case is being handled by Patrolman Anthony DeBlasio of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
