New Jersey Seeks Experienced Pilots for Wildfire Response Unit

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service is seeking two full‑time Forest Fire Pilots to join its aviation unit at Coyle Field Air Attack Base in Woodland Township, Burlington County. These pilots play a critical role in wildfire suppression, prevention, detection, and reconnaissance across the state.

The position involves operating helicopters or fixed‑wing aircraft during wildfire emergencies, supporting ground crews, conducting aerial surveillance, and assisting with statewide fire‑management operations.

Salary Range

$66,592.01 – $97,353.91 (Negotiable)

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following pathways:

• Experience Pathway
  • 1,000 hours as pilot‑in‑command in forest fire suppression, forest fire observation, agricultural, military, or civil aviation
  • At least 500 hours in the type of aircraft used for the position
  • Eight years of experience in forestry, natural resources, or civil/military/agricultural aviation
• Education Pathway
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Four years of related professional experience
