Toms River Employees Praised for Helping Young Boy During Mother’s Medical Emergency
Toms River Mayor Daniel T. Rodrick and East Dover Elementary Principal Matthew H. Gray are praising township employees Louis Reed and Ed Kempker for their quick thinking and compassion after they stepped in to help a young boy during a medical emergency on the first day of school.
According to
a post on facebook on the morning of the first day first day of school, Mr. Kempker and Mr. Reed noticed a six-year-old boy in distress while walking to school because his mother was experiencing a medical episode. Mr. Reed & Mr. Kempker immediately stepped in and took control of the situation with remarkable care and a calm demeanor. They spoke to and comforted the young boy, making sure he safely navigated across the busy intersection at Vaughn Avenue, and ensured he arrived at school safely and on time.
Reed and Kempker then made sure the boy arrived safely at East Dover Elementary School, allowing him to begin his first day despite the frightening situation.
Township officials thanked both men for their extraordinary act of service and compassion.
“Toms River is fortunate to have these gentlemen serving our community,” officials said.
