Woman Airlifted After Being Struck by Car While Helping Injured Deer in NJ

MOUNT OLIVE, NJ — A Good Samaritan effort took a tragic turn late Tuesday night when a 24-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle while attempting to help an injured deer on Route 206 in Morris County.

Mount Olive police responded to reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle around 11:45 p.m. near the intersection of Route 206 and Patricia Drive.

Upon arrival, officers located a 24-year-old Lake Hopatcong resident lying in the roadway suffering from severe injuries.

According to initial findings, the woman had pulled over and exited her vehicle after spotting a deer in the road that had previously been hit by a car.

While attempting to assist the animal, she was struck by a southbound white Mazda driven by a 29-year-old woman from Flanders. Emergency personnel called for a medical helicopter, and the victim was airlifted to a regional medical center for emergency treatment.

The driver of the Mazda remained at the scene following the crash and is fully cooperating with law enforcement]. No injuries were reported for the driver. The crash remains under investigation by local authorities. The condition of the 24-year-old victim was not immediately available.
