Jersey Shore Braces for Possible Nor’easter: Flooding, Strong Winds Threaten This Week

New Jersey is in for a gloomy and unsettled week, with a potential nor’easter raising concerns about strong winds, coastal flooding and other weather impacts, according to the latest forecast.

Temperatures are expected to remain below average throughout the week, while rain is likely Monday and Tuesday, National Weather Service forecasters said.

By midweek, a coastal storm could develop, but the storm’s eventual track will play a key role in determining how significantly New Jersey is affected.

Forecasters say a storm that develops closer to the coast would likely bring stronger winds and more widespread rainfall.

However, as of Monday morning, weather models were showing the storm tracking farther offshore, according to National Weather Service forecasters. If that track holds, the chances for rain would remain relatively low across most of New Jersey, with the greatest potential for precipitation along the immediate coast.

Despite the storm’s current track, its strength could still bring breezy to strong winds across New Jersey, including inland areas, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters said winds could become strong enough to prompt wind advisories along the Jersey Shore, especially from late Wednesday into Thursday.

Coastal flooding is also expected, with Barnegat Bay and the Shrewsbury River potentially facing some of the most significant impacts, the National Weather Service said.

Depending on the storm’s development and track, coastal flooding could linger into the weekend.

“Even so, the forecast remains particularly uncertain for rainfall and wind impacts from Friday onward,” National Weather Service forecasters said. Check the local forecast.
