Manhunt Continues After Fatal Shooting At Jersey Shore Wawa

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The search continues for a 51-year-old Toms River man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting at a local Wawa.

Authorities have charged Douglas Cobb with murder following the death of 42-year-old Bruce Gress, also of Toms River. Gress was shot Friday morning at the Wawa located near the intersection of Route 37 and Garfield Avenue.

Investigators said Cobb, who is also known as Douglas Green and uses the nickname “Bootknock,” left the scene shortly after the shooting. He was reportedly driving a black 2016 Acura MDX with New Jersey license plate T93YJL.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said authorities are continuing efforts to locate Cobb as the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.

On Sunday, investigators were going door to door in the McKinley Avenue area near Cobb’s residence as they worked to gather surveillance footage. Authorities also carried out a search warrant at Cobb’s home, the source said.

Members of the Toms River Police Department, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and SWAT were at the location as the investigation continued.

Cobb is facing several charges, including murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful weapons possession and possession of a weapon by a person prohibited from having one, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police responding to the scene found Gress suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was treated by emergency responders before being airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he was later pronounced dead, authorities said.

Anyone who has reliable information about Cobb’s location is urged to contact the Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit at 732-929-2027 or the Toms River Police Department at 732-349-0150.
