Ocean County Columbus Day Parade Postponed by Stormy Weather
Heavy rainfall expected Sunday from the remnants of Hurricane Isaias has forced several events to be canceled or postponed.
According to parade committee member Michael Blandina, the
Ocean County Columbus Day Parade and Italian Festival have been rescheduled for Sunday, October 18. The Toy Run has been postponed until November, while the Breast Cancer Walk has been canceled.
Chief Meteorologist Dan Zarrow says New Jersey will not take a direct hit from Isaias, but the storm’s remnants are expected to bring a day of what he describes as “inclement, not dangerous” weather.
Periods of rain, some potentially heavy, are forecast throughout Sunday afternoon and evening.
Zarrow noted that rainfall totals could exceed an inch in some areas, but widespread major flooding is not expected. Instead, residents should prepare for a wet, unpleasant day with possible localized water accumulation. Strong winds and significant coastal threats are not anticipated. He emphasized that the storm is nothing like Hurricane Sandy or Ida.
