Jackson Community Unites for Major Search Effort to Bring Missing Rutgers Student Home

Please come out and help!!! As we near 11 months since that dreadful day. November 8th at 10am, we will unite to not only continue the search, but to prove to law enforcement, that WE WILL NOT STOP!!!!

JACKSON, NJ — Nearly one year after the disappearance of Mortimer “Morty” Mekhai Wortman, family members, friends, classmates, and supporters are coming together once again with a shared message: don’t stop searching and don’t lose hope.

A large community search party has been organized for November 8 at 10:00 a.m., with volunteers gathering at the Regional Day School in Jackson, the location where Morty was last seen before he vanished. According to organizers, participants should be prepared for a day-long search stretching until sunset and are encouraged to bring water, food, and dress in layers for extensive hiking through wooded terrain. The effort will focus on new areas that have not yet been thoroughly searched. [yahoo.com]

The search event flyer calls on the community to “help bring Mortimer home” and emphasizes the importance of neighbors, friends, and family members working together to spread awareness and continue looking for answers.

A Disappearance That Has Touched an Entire Community

Morty, a Rutgers University-New Brunswick senior and Jackson resident, was reported missing after disappearing on November 21, 2025. Family Refuses to Give Up Hope

Friends and relatives have repeatedly organized volunteer-led searches throughout the Jackson area, determined to find any clue that could help bring closure to the family. [nbcnews.com]

Friend Nicholas Moccio told reporters that volunteers are committed to leaving “no stone unturned” and remain hopeful that even the smallest piece of evidence could help move the investigation forward. Organizers of the November 7 search are hoping for a large turnout from residents who want to assist in the effort.

Community Answering the Call

The upcoming search serves as a reminder of the compassion and determination that can emerge when a community rallies around a family in need. Volunteers from across Ocean County and beyond are expected to participate, walking trails, searching wooded areas, distributing information, and helping keep awareness of Morty’s case alive.
