A Body Found off the Coast of the Jersey Shore has been Identified

Body of Bergen County Man Has Been Identified

Officials recognized a body found by the US Coast Guard on Thursday as a man from Bergen County who had been missing for four days.

Kiariff Alston, 26, of Glen Rock, told his mother he was going to get gas before going to work at a Home Depot store in Paterson last Sunday, according to police. Alston's family reported him missing on Monday after he failed to show up for work.

Glen Rock cops started looking into it, tracking Alston's automobile to Seaside Heights.

Meanwhile, according to Coast Guard Petty Officer Kimberly Reaves, a good Samaritan alerted Coast Guard personnel about 5:30 p.m. Thursday that there was a probable body in the sea.

When Alston's body was discovered off Barnegat Light, roughly two miles off the coast of Island Beach State Park, he was wearing scuba gear, according to Reaves.

An autopsy was performed by the Ocean County Medical Examiner's Office. The death of Alston is still being investigated.
