Keith Pinto Lost His Life Too Early

Keith Pinto, a 19-year-old lifeguard who died Monday after being struck by lightning in South Seaside Park, has an online fundraising set up in his honor.

At 21st Avenue Beach, eight persons, including four lifeguards, were struck by lightning or were injured as a result of it.

Berkeley police said Pinto died at the site of his injuries.

"We lost a special guy tonight," Chase Vander Vliet wrote on the GoFundMe page he set up. "It was a total tragedy that no one could have predicted. It's tough to express how much our friend meant to us in words, but we all know how incredible he was."
