A Man from Toms River has been Arrested with Attempting to Steal $687,500 From His Previous Job

According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, a township man has been accused with attempting to steal about $700,000 from a company where he previously worked.

Karl Scheufler, 50, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with attempted theft by deception and two counts of contempt.

According to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Economic Crime Squad, Scheufler attempted to negotiate three checks totaling $687,499.74 from the business' account to deposit into his personal account and another unrelated business account between May 22 and August 8, this year.

The suspect was forbidden from acting on behalf of the company. Scheufler is being held at Ocean County Jail awaiting a detention hearing.

The investigation and arrest were carried out by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Economic Crime Squad, Toms River Township Detective Bureau, and Toms River Township Police Department.
