The Man was Struck at the Lakewood Bus Terminal's Entrance
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office announced Tuesday that authorities are investigating after a NJ Transit bus hit and killed a man on Route 88 near the bus terminal Monday night.
Around 9:45 p.m., the 32-year-old male was discovered laying by the side of the road near the terminal. Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said Monday.
He had been struck by a vehicle, according to Lakewood police, and was taken to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, where he was pronounced dead, according to Billhimer.
The victim was hit by a NJ Transit bus, according to the inquiry; the bus and its driver were discovered in Howell later that evening, he said.
Billhimer stated, "The bus operator has been cooperative."
The prosecutor's office's Vehicular Homicide and High Tech Crime sections are investigating, as are Lakewood police, NJ Transit police, and the Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
Anyone with information on the crash is encouraged to call the Prosecutor's Office's Detective John Doran at 732-929-2027, ext. 3524, according to Billhimer.
