Katie Culbert of High School North Received First Place in a Regional Science Fair and is Now Sharing Her Love of Beekeeping with the World

Katie Culbert, a freshman at High School North, took first place among all ninth graders in the Delaware Valley Science Fair last year for her project on honey bee health breakthroughs. According to a release from Toms River schools, she was then able to compete in the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair, the world's largest science competition for high school students.

Katie's Adventures in Beekeeping is a YouTube channel that Culbert founded. Culbert dons a full beekeeping suit and discusses her experiences caring for a busy hive over the course of four videos. She demonstrates how she winterizes her hive, inspects it for mite damage, and monitors the development of bee eggs, among other things.

"Backed by her early scientific success, her experience in the district's authentic science research (ASR) program, the support of her teachers and peers, and a genuine passion for beekeeping, Katie Culbert is sure to keep her place as an up-and-coming expert in the field," the school district wrote.
