Hours of tornado warnings sent New Jersey residents to seek shelter as severe weather pounded the state. Multiple tornados were confirmed.
The National Weather Service confirmed that two tornadoes touched down in Ocean County, with winds topping 100 mph each. More confirmations expected as damage surveys continue around the state. One of them, which ran from Waretown to Barnegat Light, was reported as an EF-2, with winds topping 115 mph. It slammed into Long Beach Island causing horrendous damage.
The High Bar Harbor section of Long Beach Island, NJ suffered the most damage. Both homeowners and vacationers were busy today cleaning up their homes and streets. Ocean County residents reported extensive damage to their homes. Missing shingles, overturned boats, trees that were snapped in half, down power lines, houses with broken windows and roofs were blown off.
According to residents, the tornado lasted all of three to five minutes but felt like eternity. Ocean County Sheriff Michael G. Mastronardy said his office was working with the National Weather Service and various municipal offices of emergency management to document the extent of the storm damage throughout Ocean County.Bucks County Tornado Damage
