Hazardous Weather Outlook
According to weather.gov, windy conditions may cause isolated instances of tree damage and
power outages on Sunday.
According to Ocean County Sheriff's Office, and the Office of Emergency Management they are monitoring a possibly significant storm that is expected to hit the area on Sunday, December 10th in the afternoon and continue into the night. There could be severe rain, strong winds, and concerns about coastal flooding from this system.
Heavy rainfall with a widespread 1-1.5 inches (locally 2 inches or more possible) may result in some localized flooding. A Marginal Risk for Excessive Rainfall has been placed over the entire area by the Weather Prediction Center.
Winds gusting to 30 to 40 mph are predicted. With holiday decorations up this time of year, extra precautions might need to be taken.
With the impending new moon on Tuesday, December 12th, coastal flooding will be a concern for all coastal areas. Details regarding which communities might be most affected are still to come.
According to National Weather Service, it is anticipated that the storm will strengthen on Saturday and move closer to the east coast on Sunday. Small changes in the storm track could mean the difference between heavy rain and heavy snowfall in New Jersey, which will ultimately determine the type of precipitation that falls there.
