Anticipating Freezing Rain and Snow in NJ: Latest Forecast
Before the temperature approaches 60 degrees later this week, a new storm system is expected to hit New Jersey, bringing with it freezing rain and maybe snow for some areas of the state.
The
National Weather Service reports that the Garden State has already begun to thaw Monday, with mid-30s temps predicted following a weekend of below-average overnight highs.
However, analysts warned that the state will have numerous rounds of rain beginning on Tuesday and continuing into Wednesday morning, so the sun won't stay out for very long.
As lows drop below freezing on Tuesday night and into Wednesday, the National Weather Service predicts snow and freezing rain in North Jersey and the Poconos. Depending on how the system moves, however, the storm may still bring icy conditions to areas further south and east.
During a forecast discussion on Monday, the National Weather Service stated, "All indications are that any precip will be light." As of Monday morning, the National Weather Service had not issued any advisories or watches related to flooding, which is consistent with Weather Underground's prediction of less than an inch of precipitation accumulation per day from Wednesday to Friday.
Travelers in the Northeast should be especially cautious this week, according to AccuWeather meteorologists, as any moisture from fog or rain could lead to the formation of sheets of clear ice.
AccuWeather meteorologists stated that "the icy mixture can result in slippery roads and sidewalks, travel disruptions, and power outages across the region."
On Wednesday and Thursday, residents of the Garden State may anticipate milder temperatures in the 40s and 50s, respectively, coupled with additional rain. Forecasters stated that the precipitation should end by Friday morning, in time for highs that would go close to sixty degrees.
