Approximately 22 Rabbits Were Removed from Toms River Home

Under Investigation

Harrison Road in Toms River

According to Toms River Police Department, authorities removed 22 rabbits from a shed behind a house on Harrison Road on Sunday after Toms River Animal Control received a call.

According to Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department, Officer James Colline, one of the township's humane law enforcement officers, discovered the rabbits in the backyard and in a shed on the property.

After responding to a call to the house, Toms River animal control officers summoned Colline, according to Messina.

Because of the state of the shed, Berkeley Township's hazardous materials unit was called in to assist with the removal of the rabbits, she explained.

Messina stated that the rabbits were taken to the Toms River Animal Shelter for care.

There was no information provided about the conditions in the shed; Messina stated that the investigation is ongoing.

She stated that the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and the Ocean County Health Department are assisting with the investigation.
