A serious crash on the Garden State Parkway at approximately 1:47 pm this afternoon has caused major delays. According to the State Department of Transportation, an accident on the Garden State Parkway southbound in Toms River on Friday afternoon caused an 11-mile backup in the southbound lanes.
As motorists attempt to bypass the parkway gridlock, side roads from Brick Township south to Toms River are experiencing heavy traffic.
Backups can be found on the following roadways, per the state DOT website 511nj.org:
Route 35 in Wall southbound to Point Pleasant Beach
Route 33 east in Howell from Route 34 to Asbury Road in Wall
Route 9 south from Lakewood to Toms River
Route 166 from the parkway to Route 37
Route 70 west from Brick to Ridgeway Road in Manchester.There were no early details available regarding the collision. According to the NJDOT website, all lanes were open as of 4:30 p.m., however police and other vehicles could be seen on the shoulder.
