WILDWOOD, NJ — Authorities have confirmed that the body of 14‑year‑old Davoris Carter, who went missing while swimming off the Wildwood beach earlier this month, has been recovered near the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May.
Carter disappeared on June 1 around 1:30 p.m. while swimming in the ocean near Schellenger Street, prompting an extensive multi‑agency search that included the U.S. Coast Guard, New Jersey State Police, and local first responders. Three other swimmers were rescued during the same incident and were expected to recover.

Police announced Wednesday that Carter’s body was located Tuesday and later positively identified through forensic analysis. The Wildwood Police Department issued a statement offering condolences to the family and thanking all agencies involved in both the rescue and recovery efforts.
“Our sincere condolences are with the juvenile victim’s friends and family during this very difficult time,” the department said.
Carter’s grandmother, Kenya Pippen, described him as a bright, active teen who was just days away from graduating middle school.
She shared that he loved basketball, soccer, skating, and swimming, calling him “a competitive type of kid” with a kind and helpful personality.
Carter’s mother said the family lives in Philadelphia, and the teen had been visiting Wildwood as part of a school trip.
This tragedy follows another recent case in Ocean City, where a swimmer went missing in May. Fire officials continue urging beachgoers to swim only when lifeguards are on duty, as rip currents and early‑season conditions can be unpredictable.
