Brick Township Man was Arrested Saturday after Waving a Knife Around and Behaving Erratically at NJ Walmart

News from Brick Township Police

Brick Man Charged With Knife

Egg Harbor Township police reported Monday that a guy from Brick Township was detained on Saturday after acting abnormally and swinging a knife about at Walmart.

Following the incident, which led to the Walmart's evacuation, the 32-year-old man was brought to a hospital for evaluation, according to police.

At around 2:40 on Saturday, a Walmart employee noticed a man carrying a knife "threateningly" in the electronics aisle. He possessed a knife, the loss prevention team at Walmart confirmed, and they phoned the police.

When police arrived, they observed the man acting erratically and disobeying their directions while holding a knife in his right hand, according to authorities.

Officers then attempted to talk with the man while ordering the evacuation of the establishment. He stood there for around ten minutes before beginning to walk away, at which point police said they had to attack him "due to the immediate threat to public safety." The evacuation lasted approximately 15 minutes.
