Brick Township Resident Charged in Fatal Drug Distribution Case
According to the Ocean County Prosecutor's office, on June 17, 2026, Roderick Seward, 31, of Brick Township, was charged with Strict Liability Drug Induced Death, Distribution of Cocaine, and Possession of Cocaine, all in connection with the death of a 27-year-old female in Brick Township on January 26, 2026.
On January 26, 2026, at approximately 9:10 a.m., Officers from the
Brick Township Police Department responded to a residence for a report of an unresponsive female. Upon arrival, Officers discovered the body of the victim - already deceased from an apparent drug overdose.
A subsequent investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Strike Force, Brick Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, revealed that Seward had supplied cocaine to the victim.
Continuing investigation and toxicology analysis recently received by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the presence of cocaine in the victim’s system. Based upon this toxicology analysis, the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the cocaine found in the victim’s system was the cause of her death.
As a consequence, on June 17, 2026, Seward was charged with the crimes referenced above. On that date, Seward surrendered himself to Brick Township Police Headquarters; he was transported to the Ocean County Jail where he is presently lodged pending a detention hearing.
The charges referenced above are merely accusations and the press and public are reminded that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
